Oman is an absolutely beautiful country, I've been visiting my dad there for over a decade now. You don't see too many back-packers as cheap accommodation is quite hard to find on a whim, but the country has naturally amazing sites which are free to admire. The beaches are also amazing and Mazera, an island off the East coast, is a hot-spot for turtle watching :)
