Slovakia has one of the highest rates of unemployment in Europe. Unemployment rates are 10% in urban areas and approximately 20% in rural areas. Despite this, a number of manufacturers currently employ foreign workers. However, employment opportunities for British citizens are limited with most firms preferring to hire workers from other eastern European countries such as Romania.
